Film series continues

Malcolm

Philip Day's fascinating film V for Vengeance, which tells the remarkable story of the background to Hitler's V weapons programmes, was enjoyed by an enthusiastic audience in the Geoffrey Page Centre at The Wing in Capel-le-Ferne.

The screening was the latest in a series of free Sunday afternoon events being held at The Memorial this autumn and will be followed this coming Sunday (27 October) by a fascinating double bill of documentaries by Kent's own Peter Williams.

The afternoon's showing, which begins at 1pm, will feature two films - They Fought the Few and Martha Gellhorn: On the Record, and promises to be fascinating viewing.

They Fought the Few highlights The friendship between RAF ace Bob Stanford Tuck and the Luftwaffe's top-scoring fighter pilot Adolf Galland, while the second film explores Martha Gellhorn's reports from the D-Day beaches.

There will be an interval between the two films and the Cockpit Cafe, Scramble Experienc and shop will be open as normal. The Wing is now operating winter hours and closing at 4pm.

On Sunday 3 November the Trust will welcome John Willis, documentary film maker, author and long-time supporter of the Memorial, who will talk about, and sign copies of, his latest book, Fighter Boy – The Many Lives of Geoffrey Page OBE, DSO, DFC and Bar.

It was Geoffrey Page, shot down and badly burned during the Battle of Britain, who later persuaded a group of people – the embryonic Battle of Britain Memorial Trust – to commission the National Memorial to the Few here at Capel-le-Ferne.

There are limited seats available for this event, so please book in advance by calling 01303 249292 or emailing enquiries@battleofbritainmemorial.org
