Instagram high flyer to visit The Wing

Malcolm

Self-confessed Spitfire addict Jo Roger and colleague Peter Hall are next on the runway as the Trust continues its exciting season of Sunday afternoon talks.

Jo, better known by her almost 96,000 followers on Instagram as That Spitfire Bird, will be joined by Peter this Sunday (19 March) to deliver a presentation entitled A Bird’s Eye View of Vintage Aviation.

After taking up gliding as a teenager, Jo was unable to follow her dream of flying with the RAF because it was not a career option for women in the early 1980s. Still determined to take to the skies, she took her first Spitfire flight in 2017 and has been addicted to the aircraft and its story ever since.

Given the pivotal role played by the Spitfire in the Battle of Britain, the Memorial Trust is delighted to be welcoming Jo and Peter to The Wing this weekend and is expecting a full house – so book early if you haven’t already.

Interviewed by Peter, Jo will discuss her support for the Headcorn-based Aero Legends company in a wide-ranging illustrated talk that will feature her experiences as ground crew. In addition to his interviewer role, Peter will cover some of the other activities at Aero Legends, including future vintage jet restorations.

Jo began volunteering at Aero Legends in 2019 and started her Instagram account during the lockdown of 2020.

Peter enjoyed a 30-year career in the police before retiring and eventually answering an Aero Legends advert for volunteer ground crew in 2021.
