Borough pays tribute to one of its own

Malcolm

The borough of Erewash, in Derbyshire, has unveiled a tribute to Squadron Leader Arthur Clowes, who won both the Distinguished Flying Medal (DFM) and the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) while serving in the Royal Air Force in the second world war.

Clowes, who painted his emblem, a stinging wasp, on the side of his Hurricane, downed a number of enemy aircraft during the Battle of Britain after an equally successful campaign during the Battle of France.
